Become an ARA Youth Ambassador!
Applications are now open for our Youth Ambassador Program, a fantastic leadership opportunity for students in years 10 and 11. Students from a refugee background or with a particular interest in refugee issues are nominated by their schools and ARA staff to participate.
The program provides opportunities in leadership training, public speaking, advocacy and fundraising. Highlights of 2019 included the Youth Ambassador Camp and the huge multicultural celebration at Mark Oliphant College where youth ambassadors from five other schools attended.
Past Youth Ambassadors have told us of the profound impact the program has had on them.
“Giving me this chance to be a Youth Ambassador has changed my life. I feel so honoured to be an Ambassador. I want other young people to have this chance too.”
“The camp was an unforgettable experience. It was incredible to see how brave people around us are and how their stories shaped who they are today.”
“The resilience workshop helped me grow personally and helped me discover who I am. The ARA Youth Panel was really inspiring to hear all the stories and know that you’re not alone.”
Many of our past youth ambassadors now provide a public face for ARA and are employed to speak about their experiences as former refugees at schools, public events and cultural awareness training sessions; to assist with ARA youth programs; and to take a lead as peer leaders in ongoing youth ambassador programs.
