Welcome to the New Land New Hope Video Exhibition

It’s 30 years since the first waves of refugees from the Horn of Africa region settled in South Australia.

To mark this occasion and celebrate the contributions of these former refugees, the Australian Refugee Association interviewed eight remarkable people who fled their country in search of a better life.

They chose life over death, opportunity over poverty and freedom over oppression. They took the ultimate risk and embraced the opportunities of a new life in Australia.

This video exhibition celebrates their contributions to the rich fabric of life in South Australia and shows how a helping hand can completely transform someone’s life. Many of the participants were first settled by ARA volunteers and staff, and have gone on to raise families, build businesses and help their communities thrive.

The Australian Refugee Association has been a helping hand for thousands of new arrivals since it was founded by a small group of volunteers in 1975. If you’d like to help our work, you can make a donation to our Emergency Support Service here.
