Fostering connections, sharing knowledge and building skills to increase community sustainability … this was the theme of a recent community capacity building session held at ARA. An enthusiastic group of 23 community leaders and five volunteer mentors came together to develop strategies for community skill mapping. Using an asset-based community development approach, groups worked to identify the knowledge and skill sets of individuals within the group. Community leaders and mentors will continue to share and develop skills in priority areas as identified by communities. As one participant commented, ‘… individually we can’t do it all, but together we have the skills to do it all’.

If you would like to be involved with a Community Capacity Building and Volunteer Mentor session in the future, please contact Social Engagement Coordinator Joni Cottrell joni.cottrell@ausref.net
