Face-to-face return for Homework Clubs and Hangouts

ARA Homework Clubs and Hangout/mentoring programs are back operating face-to-face.
ARA Homework Clubs operate in Salisbury (Mondays), West Croydon and Park Holme (Tuesdays) and Hilton (Thursdays). While face-to-face clubs were postponed in term 2, they are returning in term 3. In conjunction with the protocols of each of the Homework Club centres, ARA follows a strict South Australian Government COVID safe plan.

There is also an online session on Thursday afternoons for anyone who can’t attend in person.

ARA Homework Clubs offer free tutoring to high school students from refugee backgrounds who have been in Australia five years or less. They are a safe and supportive space for young people to engage in education with our volunteer tutors, while also building confidence and emotional stability.

A recent research study through the University of Adelaide found that the program was rewarding for the students and the volunteer tutors. The clubs help students to improve study outcomes and their overall high school experience. Importantly, ARA’s homework clubs also provide valuable social connections in a supportive environment. One student quoted in the report said that Homework Club is “…helping me to understand assignments I find difficult to understand.” Another noted that, “It helped me to have resilience and responsibility.”

ARA’s Youth Hangout and Mentoring program are back face-to-face every Friday from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm at the ARA Salisbury office, 1 Brown Terrace.
